The U.S. has faced high export fees for decades as international goods have flowed into the nation with low or no tariffs.
United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer made a case for President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs after they went into effect this week on what the president dubbed “Liberation Day.“
The president and members of his administration call the trade policy “The Golden Rule for the Golden Age,“ meaning that tariffs are being placed on trading partner nations based on the tariffs and taxes levied against exports from the United States.
The trade representative stated, “President Trump is correcting long-standing trade imbalances caused by non-reciprocal trade relationships by imposing tariffs to level the playing field for American workers.“
He continued, “For decades, the trade status quo has allowed countries to use unfair trade practices to get ahead at the expense of hardworking Americans. President Trump is revolutionizing our trade policy to put the American economy, the American worker, and our national security first.“
Trade Representative Greer added, “President Trump’s trade action will usher in a reshoring renaissance and open foreign markets, expanding our manufacturing base and creating new high-paying jobs.“
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to strengthen national security by increasing manufacturing growth in this nation.
- For Trade Representative Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick as they encourage companies to open plants and facilities in the U.S.
- For the president and his economic advisors as they strategize options to return production to America.
