In the News…
The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, advanced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act last week. The legislation, authored by Representative Richard Hudson of North Carolina, would amend the U.S. Code to allow citizens with concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun in any other state.
Representative Jordan said, “Our First Amendment rights do not change from one state to another and our Second Amendment rights should not either. Law-abiding citizens should be able to [carry] a concealed firearm between states without worrying about conflicting state criminal laws or onerous civil suits.”
He said that at least 22 million gun owners in the nation are concealed carry permit holders. More than half of the states have constitutional carry laws, which means that permits are not required to carry a firearm.
“This means,” Congressman Jordan said, “that a state does not require law-abiding citizens to obtain a concealed carry permit or license before carrying a firearm outside their home.”
