The Justices of the Supreme Court are hearing oral arguments in a case from Wisconsin on religious tax exemptions and then on a prisoner’s right to amend an appeal.

In the first case, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court ruled that Catholic Charities do not qualify for tax exemption because it is not “operated primarily for religious purposes.” The justices will consider whether or not the state is violating the First Amendment’s religion clauses by determining that a religious organization does not meet the state’s criteria for religious behavior.
In the second case, the justices will consider the conditions of a prisoner’s filing a second habeas and the right to amend it. The U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals have issued various opposing decisions, with most holding that the second appeal cannot be amended, while one court allowed amendment to the petition, and two others limited allowance of the amendment of the filing.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the Supreme Court justices as they hear the cases before them.
- For President Donald Trump and members of his Cabinet as they work to strengthen national security and the economy.
- For the Lord’s purposes and plans to be accomplished through the actions of governing officials.
