Secretary Kennedy makes an announcement after meeting with formula company execs.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced this month that the Food and Drug Administration will increase testing for infant formula in the United States to more closely monitor nutrition content and potential heavy metal contamination.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., made the announcement after meeting with the chief executives of the largest formula companies, including Abbott Laboratories, which makes Similac, and Reckitt Benckiser, which makes Enfamil. The secretary called the meeting after Consumer Reports published test results that found potentially harmful chemicals in half of the 41 infant formulas it tested.
“The FDA will use all resources and authorities at its disposal to make sure infant formula products are safe and wholesome for the families and children who rely on them,” Secretary Kennedy stated.
