He stole over a million dollars in U.S. Treasury and private checks.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia reported that a former U.S. Postal worker was convicted by a federal jury this month of theft of mail and bank fraud after stealing $1.6 million in checks from the mail. Bank surveillance footage showed the man making deposits and withdrawals of the funds. Federal prosecutors alleged that the Washington, D.C., resident had used the proceeds on a “lavish lifestyle that included international travel, stays at luxury hotels, and purchases at gentlemen’s clubs.”
The Justice Department stated that, between December 2020 and March 2023, the then-employee of USPS “executed a scheme to steal U.S. Treasury checks and private party checks from the U.S. mail… then deposited the checks, which he either altered and/or falsely endorsed, into bank accounts under his control.”
The man was also found guilty of “unlawful procurement of naturalization,” having provided false information to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding his criminal and arrest history.
