Interior Announces Plans to Expand Arctic Drilling

The administration is returning to energy policies from President Trump’s first term.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) announced plans to expand drilling in the Arctic this month, outlining a number of steps to open all 1.56 million acres of the Alaskan coast.

“It’s time for the U.S. to embrace Alaska’s abundant and largely untapped resources as a pathway to prosperity for the Nation, including Alaskans,” stated Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

The Interior Department will need to reverse a number of regulatory decisions enacted by President Biden’s administration, particularly the protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The previous administration limited oil and gas drilling in the area to less than half of the 23-million-acre reserve, triggering a lawsuit from the state of Alaska. The current department proposes opening 82 percent of the wildlife refuge for drilling.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Burgum to be discerning as he seek to reverse the regulations that limited drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
  • For Alaska state officials who support the effort to increase revenue and employment through drilling expansion.
