Greenland’s prime minister requests that the U.S. respect the country’s integrity and democracy without interference.
The office of Second Lady Usha Vance announced that she will be traveling to Greenland this week with a U.S. delegation including Energy Secretary Chris Wright. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz will make a separate trip to the country at the same time. White House National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes said on Monday that the U.S. has a “vested interest in the Arctic region.”
“We also look forward to experiencing Greenland’s famous hospitality and are confident that this visit presents an opportunity to build on partnerships that respects Greenland’s self-determination and advances economic cooperation,” Spokesperson Hughes said. “This is a visit to learn about Greenland, its culture, history, and people and to attend a dogsled race the United States is proud to sponsor, plain and simple.”
President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to make Greenland part of the United States.
