New council to focus on protecting U.S. technology and telecommunications from foreign adversaries.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr recently announced the formation of the Council for National Security. The first director of the council will be Chairman Carr’s National Security Counsel, Adam Chan.
The council is tasked with reducing reliance on foreign adversaries in technology supply chains, preventing cyberattacks and surveillance threats, and maintaining U.S. leadership in critical technologies such as 5G, AI, and quantum computing. Representatives from eight FCC bureaus will collaborate on these initiatives, promoting coordination across federal agencies and Congress.
The council will enhance the FCC’s efforts to protect the nation’s technology and telecommunications sectors, using the FCC’s regulatory and enforcement powers to counter foreign threats, with a particular focus on those posed by the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party.
Chairman Carr said, “These bad actors are always exploring ways to breach our networks, devices, and technology ecosystem. It is more important than ever that the FCC remain vigilant and protect Americans and American companies from these threats. Because these threats now cut across a range of sectors that the FCC regulates, it is important that the FCC’s national security efforts pull resources from a variety of FCC organizations.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Chairman Carr and members of the FCC as they seek to ensure security in the communications sector.
- For Director Adam Chan to be led by the Lord as he presides over the FCC Council for National Security.
