Treasury Secretary Rehires Whistleblowers

The two former agents had investigated Hunter Biden.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent rehired the two former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers who claimed that the Justice Department (DOJ) under President Joe Biden was slow-rolling its investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax evasion.

The two whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, claim they were removed from the Hunter Biden investigation after raising their concerns, later testifying before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee in 2023. At the time, the Justice Department denied the whistleblower’s claims, pointing out that the head investigator on the case, U.S. Attorney David Weiss, was appointed by President Donald Trump in 2020 and kept in place after President Joe Biden assumed office.

Secretary Bessent called the removal of Shapley and Ziegler from the investigation a “travesty,” saying they were “dedicated civil servants trying to do their jobs.”

“I went and decided I would bring them into Treasury, give them a year to investigate the wrongdoing that’s going on at the IRS, and then they will go back in and Mr. Shapley will serve as the senior deputy for investigations and enforcement,” Secretary Bessent said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Bessent to receive God’s direction as he heads the Treasury Department.
  • For the two rehired agents to work ethically and investigate with integrity in the department.
