Senator Announces Legislative Plan to Back President’s Dismantling of Education Department

Senator Cassidy said he agrees “with President Trump that the Department of Education has failed its mission.”

Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, announced a plan to introduce legislation to facilitate the shutdown of the Department of Education. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to facilitate the department’s dismantling.

“I agree with President Trump that the Department of Education has failed its mission,” Senator Cassidy stated. “Since the Department can only be shut down with Congressional approval, I will support the President’s goals by submitting legislation to accomplish this as soon as possible.”

Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky has already introduced a bill in the current session of Congress to terminate the Department of Education on December 31, 2026. That legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Workforce for consideration.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Cassidy and Representative Massie as they seek to provide congressional authorization to shutter the Education Department.
  • For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to reduce federal spending and eliminate waste.
