Four resolutions have been introduced in Congress to impeach federal judges for judicial overreach.
Members of Congress have filed four impeachment resolutions against three federal judges this year for issuing nationwide injunctions deemed as federal overreach against the actions of President Donald Trump’s administration.
At the U.S. Judicial Conference this past week, some federal judges expressed concerns about the increase in judicial impeachments.
“One thing worth keeping in mind is if we dilute the standards for impeachment, that’s not just a problem for judges, that’s a problem for all three branches of government,” Judge Jeffrey Sutton, the head of the conference’s executive committee.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s administration has asked the justices of the Supreme Court to intervene.
“This is hardly the first time that individual district judges have entered injunctions to ‘govern the whole Nation from their courtrooms,’” the filing from Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris stated.
The filing continued, “That sharp rise in universal injunctions stops the Executive Branch from performing its constitutional functions before any courts fully examine the merits of those actions, and threatens to swamp this Court’s emergency docket.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to reduce the overhead of the government and its workforce.
- For the justices of the Supreme Court to be discerning as they consider the administration’s appeal.
- For district judges to rule according to their jurisdictions rather than issuing nationwide injunctions and temporary restraining orders.
