Thursday, March 13

Today, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are meeting with Ontario Premier Doug Ford in Washington, D.C., to discuss renewing the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement (USMCA) to strengthen the economic bond between the two countries.

The meeting is the result of a conversation earlier this week between the U.S. commerce secretary and Ontario premier as the Canadians had threatened to place 25 percent tariffs on electricity exported to New York, Minnesota, and Michigan. President Donald Trump had responded to this with the pledge to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum. The originally planned 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum went into effect on Wednesday.

Senate committees are holding confirmation hearings to consider President Trump’s nominees for several federal positions in the Departments of State, Justice, and Health and Human Services, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the U.S. commerce secretary and Ontario premier as they meet to discuss the trade agreement.
  • For President Trump and his advisors to receive God’s wisdom as they implement foreign policies.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider the president’s appointees for government positions.
