HHS Expands Title IX Investigation in Maine

Officials look at principals’ association for allowing biological male students to play in female sports.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights expanded its Title IX investigation into the Maine Principals Association, the state’s primary governing body for high school athletics, and Greely High School last week. The federal agency had already issued a notice of violation against the state’s Department of Education after it continued to allow biological male athletes who claim to be transgender to participate in women’s sports leagues, violating federal sex-based discrimination requirements.

“HHS will investigate and enforce Title IX to the full extent permitted by law to uphold fairness, safety, dignity, and biological truth in women’s and girls’ educational athletic opportunities,” Spokesman Andrew Nixon stated. “Men have no place in women’s sports. Maine must comply with Title IX or risk losing federal funding.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi cautioned Maine to comply with federal law last month, stating “[T]his Department of Justice will defend women and does not tolerate state officials who ignore federal law. We will leverage every legal option necessary to ensure state compliance with federal law and President Trump’s Executive Order protecting women’s sports.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Bondi to receive God’s wisdom as she seeks compliance with federal laws from the states.
  • For discernment of HHS investigators as they expand the effort to ensure the safety of female athletes in high school sports.
