EPA Updates WaterSense Standards, DOE Reviews Appliance Regulations

Administration officials seek to prevent increases in costs and ensure products are reliable.

Administrator Lee Zeldin announced that the Environmental Protection Agency is revising all WaterSense specifications established under President Biden’s administration, citing concerns that they have increased costs and reduced appliance performance. The WaterSense program, which sets efficiency standards for water-using products, will now focus on balancing effectiveness with affordability.

“Americans deserve access to the best products in their homes, and appliances like shower heads and lightbulbs that work,” said Administrator Zeldin. “That’s why I’ve instructed EPA’s WaterSense program to overhaul their specifications that best factor in effectiveness and consumer experience. Together with the Department of Energy and President Trump’s leadership, we are working to not only lower costs for American families but improve the quality of household appliances.”

In addition to the EPA’s review, the Energy Department is also delaying seven energy efficiency regulations for central air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, gas water heaters, air compressors, and lighting. The department also plans to introduce a new efficiency category for instantaneous gas water heaters.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Zeldin to receive God’s direction as he oversees the review of the water efficiency standards.
  • For Secretary Chris Wright as he heads the Department of Energy.
  • For Energy Department officials to be discerning as they review the reliability of appliances against energy-efficient regulations.
