The program is set to expire in August 2025.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reversed the previous administration’s extension of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitians for an additional 18 months. This will allow the existing TPS to expire on August 3, 2025. The program provides temporary residency to individuals from countries facing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary conditions.
Haiti has held this designation since 2010, with the number of eligible individuals rising from 57,000 in 2011 to over 520,000 by 2024, according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data.
A DHS spokeswoman stated, “We are returning integrity to the TPS system, which has been abused and exploited by illegal aliens for decades. President Trump and Secretary Noem are returning TPS to its original status: temporary.”
This decision follows a similar move last month to reverse the TPS extension for Venezuelans. The department emphasized that the new approach seeks to prevent misuse of the program. The policy shift reflects the administration’s efforts to reassess immigration practices and maintain the integrity of the TPS system while addressing ongoing immigration concerns.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Noem as she implements changes to previous immigration programs.
- For DHS officials to receive God’s guidance as they carry out President Trump’s immigration policies.
