Marco Rubio
Secretary of State
Marco Antonio Rubio was born in May 1971 in Miami, Florida. His parents were Cubans who immigrated to the U.S. He attended Tarkio College in Missouri for a year on a football scholarship before enrolling at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. He later earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Florida and received a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law. He interned with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rubio was elected to a seat as a city commissioner for West Miami before becoming a member of the Florida House of Representatives, where he served eight years, two as the Speaker. He was elected to the United States Senate, assuming office in January 2011.
Rubio was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump for Secretary of State prior to his inauguration in 2025. The Senate confirmed Rubio the day President Trump was sworn in and Rubio was sworn into office the following morning.
Rubio is married to Jeanette Dousdebes, and they have four children. He is a Catholic.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a rule that will require all diplomatic travel to be reviewed before being approved. Under the previous administration, many members of the State Department traveled around the globe to promote the agenda of President Biden.
Secretary Rubio’s rule is intended to ensure all official foreign travel will be conducted in accordance with the new administration’s goals and policies.
Trips that were scheduled prior to President Trump’s inauguration will be subject to review and cancellation under the secretary of state’s directive.
