Coast Guard Announces Expansion of Maritime Deployment

The move comes after President Trump fired the commandant of the service.

After President Trump released Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Linda Fagan on Tuesday, the service announced it would be deploying additional vessels, aircraft, and forces to strengthen maritime security along the nation’s border.

President Trump said that Admiral Fagan had failed “to address border security threats.”

Coast Guard Acting Commandant Admiral Kevin Lunday stated Wednesday, “Per the President’s Executive Orders, I have directed my operational commanders to immediately surge assets — cutters, aircraft, boats, and deployable specialized forces — to increase Coast Guard presence and focus.”

Admiral Lunday outlined six key areas where more assets would be deployed, and referenced the Gulf of America, acknowledging the president’s change in the title of the Gulf of Mexico.

He continued, “Together, in coordination with our Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense teammates, we will detect, deter, and interdict illegal migration, drug smuggling, and other terrorist or hostile activity before it reaches our border.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Admiral Lunday as he oversees the U.S. Coast Guard expansion of deployment for border security.
  • For President Trump and his national security advisors as they address illegal immigration.
