Scott Bessent stated he is ready to follow President Trump’s lead.
Treasury secretary nominee Scott Bessent told the Senate Finance Committee last week that he would be “100 percent on board” with increasing sanctions against Russia should President Donald Trump decide it is the best course of action.
Members of the committee questioned Bessent’s views on current sanctions imposed to curb Russia’s attempts to take over Ukraine during his nomination hearing. Bessent said the war in Ukraine is “one of the greatest tragedies of my adult life,” and that he would be willing to continue using the measures.
“If any officials in the Russian Federation are watching this confirmation hearing, they should know that if I’m confirmed and if President Trump requests as part of his strategy to end the Ukraine war, that I will be 100 percent on board for taking sanctions up, especially on the Russian oil majors, to levels that would bring the Russia Federation to the table,” Bessent said.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
