He declares a national energy emergency.
President Donald Trump stated he would again remove the United States from the Paris Climate Accords. Former President Obama had declared the U.S. part of the treaty in 2015 though the Constitution requires the Senate to ratify any treaty the nation enters by a two-thirds majority.
During his first term, President Trump withdrew the U.S. from participating in any fashion, refusing to engage in “a legally binding international treaty on climate change” which is governed by international law. President Biden immediately reentered the accords upon taking office in 2021.
“The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today, I will also declare A National Energy Emergency,” President Trump said during his inaugural speech.
“America will be a manufacturing nation once again, and we have something that no other manufacturing nation will ever have: the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth. And we are going to use it… We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again, right to the top, and export American energy all over the world. We will be a rich nation again, and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the president and his energy advisors as they seek to increase the nation’s oil and gas production and reserves.
- For Energy Secretary nominee Chris Wright as he goes through the Senate confirmation process.
- For members of the Senate Energy Committee as they review the qualifications of the president’s appointee.
