President Trump Declares National Emergency for the U.S. Border

He highlighted immigration as one of the top issues his administration will address in his inaugural speech.

President Donald Trump outlined the top priorities of his second administration during his speech after he was sworn in, with immigration heading the list. He declared a national emergency for the border crisis and will reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy.

The Customs and Border Protection One app, through which the previous administration granted entry to immigrants, has been shut down. Refugee resettlement of large populations of migrants has also been suspended.

The members of the Armed Forces and National Guard will support border security to strengthen national security.

President Trump said he would also designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
