President-elect Donald Trump spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week as he prepares for his second aministration. The leaders discussed the future of Tiktok, among other topics.
President Trump stated, “The call was a very good one for both China and the U.S.A. It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately.”

TikTok faces the enforcement of a functional ban on the social media platform in the United States that was passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden. Though the American government’s scrutiny of TikTok began under President Trump in 2020 when he signed an executive order to impose emergency sanctions against the app, he has expressed a different point of view in recent years, signaling support in recent months for preserving the app in the United States.
On Wednesday, the president-elect’s incoming national security adviser, Mike Waltz, said the president-elect intends to take action to preserve TikTok once back in office.
“TikTok itself is a fantastic platform,” Waltz said. “We’re going to find a way to preserve it but protect people’s data. And that’s the deal that will be in front of us.”
