Tribal Communities Receive $121 Million for Climate Resilience Projects

Funding is distributed for relocation, coastal management, and habitat restoration.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) distributed $121 million last week to Tribal communities facing environmental deterioration, funding 124 projects across 96 Tribes and Tribal organizations.

Weather patterns are causing coastal deterioration, ecosystem collapse, and an increase in extreme weather events. This funding will allow Tribal governments, which face these changes more acutely than other communities, to move forward with efforts to bolster coastal protections, restore local habitats, and relocate houses and public buildings to more safe and stable locations.

Outgoing Secretary Deb Haaland said, “We have made transformational commitments to assist Tribes and Tribal organizations as they plan for and implement climate resilience measures, upholding our trust and treaty responsibilities and safeguarding these places for generations to come.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum to seek God’s direction as he prepares to oversee the Interior Department.
  • For U.S. interior officials as they seek to address environmental deterioration.
