Proposes regulation for communication technology supply chain.
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the Commerce Department has issued a proposed rule for potential regulations on foreign-made drone components. The agency is seeking public comment on the rule that would prevent drones with components sourced in Russia or China from being sold in the United States.
Commercial drones are now easy to purchase and the drone supply chain often sources components, such as cameras and positioning sensors, from adversarial countries.
“Securing the unmanned aircraft systems technology supply chain is critical to safeguarding our national security. This [proposed rule] is an essential step in protecting the United States from vulnerabilities posed by foreign entities,” said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Raimondo to be discerning as she oversees the Commerce Department.
- For wisdom for U.S. commerce and economic officials as they assess the potential national security risks of foreign-made technology.
