Attorney General Merrick Garland will release only one of two special investigations into President-elect Donald Trump, withholding the report on the former and future president’s handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. He will publish only the report on {resident Trump’s attempts to challenge the 2020 election results and his role in events of January 6, 2021, as Congress met to certify the Electoral Votes.
AG Garland made this decision at the recommendation of special counsel Jack Smith “to avoid any risk of prejudice” while the president-elect’s lawyers process a legal bid to prevent the Mar-a-Lago report from being released.
“The Attorney General determined that he will not make a public release of Volume Two while defendants’ cases remain pending. That should be the end of the matter,” prosecutors wrote to an appeals court on Wednesday.
