President Joe Biden canceled his trip to Italy due to the wildfires raging in California. He had been scheduled to meet with the pope and Italian prime minister.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated late Wednesday, “President Biden made the decision to cancel his upcoming trip to Italy to remain focused on directing the full federal response in the days ahead.”
President Biden said his administration is “prepared to do anything and everything as long as it takes to contain these fires and help reconstruct, make sure we get to normal.”
Six fires have burnt thousands of acres in Los Angeles County. At least five people lost their lives due to the wildfires and the California Office of Emergency Services reported over 4 million people have lost power this week.
