Surgeon General Recommends Cancer Risk Warning on Alcohol Labels

He published a report linking seven cancer types to alcohol consumption.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy released a report recommending that alcohol labels should include cancer risk warnings. The report outlines known links between alcohol consumption and at least seven types of cancer. Alcohol is the third-leading cause of cancer in the United States, behind tobacco and obesity.

While research has shown a link between alcohol and cancer, “The majority of Americans are unaware of this risk,” the surgeon general stated. He added that there’s no “magic level” of safe alcohol consumption for the entire population.

“What we do know is that less alcohol consumption means less cancer risk,” Surgeon General Murthy said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the surgeon general as he assesses the health impacts of consumables.
  • For U.S. health officials as they release reports on cancer-causing substances.
