Half the penalty will be used to compensate affected customers.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has fined JetBlue $2 million for chronically delayed flights. While airlines are required to maintain realistic schedules, the department found that 145 JetBlue flights between June 2022 and November 2023 were egregiously delayed.
The Transportation Department had already issued a warning to JetBlue, but the airline continued to schedule delayed flights. This led the department to issue its first ever financial penalty for chronic flight delays. Half of the fine will go toward refunding customers affected by JetBlue’s practices.
“Today’s action puts the airline industry on notice that we expect their flight schedules to reflect reality,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The department will enforce the law against airlines with chronic delays or unrealistic scheduling practices in order to protect healthy competition and ensure passengers are treated fairly.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Buttigieg and U.S. transportation officials as they seek to hold airlines accountable for unreasonable flight schedules.
- For wisdom for current administration officials as they take action and make decisions during the final weeks of this term.
