His withdrawals “have no expiration date and prohibit all future oil and natural gas leasing in the areas withdrawn.”
On Monday, President Joe Biden announced the removal of all U.S. Outer Continental Shelf areas off the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and additional portions of the Northern Bering Sea in Alaska from all future oil and natural gas leasing.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “The withdrawals have no expiration date, and prohibit all future oil and natural gas leasing in the areas withdrawn.”
The president said, “My decision reflects what coastal communities, businesses, and beachgoers have known for a long time: that drilling off these coasts could cause irreversible damage to places we hold dear and is unnecessary to meet our nation’s energy needs. It is not worth the risks.”
“We do not need to choose between protecting the environment and growing our economy, or between keeping our ocean healthy, our coastlines resilient, and the food they produce secure and keeping energy prices low. Those are false choices,” President Biden stated. “Protecting America’s coasts and ocean is the right thing to do, and will help communities and the economy to flourish for generations to come.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his advisors as they pursue their energy agenda as the current term comes to a close.
- For U.S. officials as they endeavor to conserve and preserve American ocean and coastal areas.
