He commends the “strength and resilience” of residents after the terrorist attack.
President Joe Biden affirmed the “strength and resilience” of New Orleans residents after a sole attacker injured 35 and killed 14 during New Year’s Day festivities on Bourbon Street.
The president and first lady offered their condolences at the memorial constructed at the site of the attack. They then met with survivors of the attack before a prayer service at the Saint Peter Claver Church.
“I know events like this are hard. The shock and pain is still so very raw,” President Biden said. “My wife, Jill, and I are here to stand with you. To grieve with you. To pray with you. To let you know you are not alone. The rest of the nation is looking at you as well.”
“This city’s people get back up. That’s the spirit of America as well,” President Biden said.
