The Pentagon uses the Defense Production Act to meet the demand for missiles.
Last week, the Department of Defense (DoD) awarded $253.7 million to Williams International, a missile production company, to meet the domestic and global demand for precision strike weapons. This action was taken through measures outlined by the Defense Production Act, as it was deemed necessary to boost the weapons supply of both the United States and its allies.
Using this funding, Williams will manufacture additional Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM), Long Range Anti-Ship Missiles (LRASM), Tomahawks, Harpoons, and other precision strike weapons.
“This effort is a key component of the DoD’s strategy to accelerate the capacity and fielding of precision strike weapons to deliver cutting-edge capabilities and options to our armed forces,” said Assistant Secretary Laura Taylor-Kale for Industrial Base Policy.
