President’s Administration Proposes Protections for Nevada Ruby Mountains

Secretary Vilsack begins the process for a 20-year withdrawal of area from mining leases.

President Biden’s administration has proposed withdrawing Nevada’s Ruby Mountains from federal mining leases for 20 years in a joint statement from the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA)

“The Ruby Mountains are an iconic landscape with exceptional recreation opportunities and valuable fish and wildlife habitat worth preserving for the future,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. “Today’s action honors the voices of Tribal communities and conservation and sportsmen’s groups and marks another important step to protect a treasured landscape.”

A 90-day period for public comment is now open for the proposal and an environmental analysis developed by the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service is underway. Officials from President Biden’s administration will also meet with Tribal leaders and industry professionals for their assessments.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretaries Vilsack and Haaland as they collaborate on wildlife and land conservation.
  • For wisdom for the president and his Cabinet secretaries as the current term comes to a close.
