Congress Prepares to Certify Electoral Count as Severe Weather Hits D.C.

Flights have been canceled as snow accumulates.

House Speaker Mike Johnson encouraged his colleagues to stay in Washington, D.C. over the weekend so that the presidential Electoral Count could be certified on Monday. Congress is required to certify the election outcome on January 6 at 1 PM under the Electoral Count Act.

The National Weather Service forecast 6 to 12 inches of snow for the nation’s capital and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management announced that federal offices were closed on Monday.

“Whether we’re in a blizzard or not, we are going to be in that chamber making sure this is done,” Speaker Johnson said. “President Trump had a mandate, a landslide… we cannot delay that certification. He deserves that.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For federal legislators as they prepare to certify the Electoral Count of the 2024 presidential election.
  • For safety for members of Congress as they make their way to Capitol Hill.
