The agency’s annual report showed over 770,000 experienced homelessness on a single night in January 2024.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently issued its annual homelessness assessment. The agency reported that homelessness rose 18 percent in 2024 over the year before, with 770,000 people “experiencing homelessness on ”experiencing homelessness on a single night in January 2024.“
The department also announced measures it is taking to reduce homelessness, “to expand housing resources, improve services, and end veteran homelessness.“
“While this data is nearly a year old, and no longer reflects the situation we are seeing, it is critical that we focus on evidence-based efforts to prevent and end homelessness,“ Acting HUD Secretary Adrienne Todman stated.
She added, “By expanding partnerships, repurposing federal properties, and investing in programs like HUD-VASH, we are making meaningful progress toward our shared goal of ending homelessness and building stronger, more equitable communities.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Acting Secretary Todman to look to God for direction as she oversees efforts to address homelessness.
- For HUD officials to be discerning as they implement measures to assist people to obtain affordable housing.
