Today, the 119th Congress is convening and the representatives of the House and new members of the Senate will be sworn in.
Senator John Thune of South Dakota was elected as the incoming Senate Majority Leader after the general election in November determined the majority would change parties.
The members of the House of Representatives will elect their speaker. Though Speaker Mike Johnson was endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump, some members of the House majority have signaled they will not support his reappointment to the position.
