USDA Announces Wood Processing Support Program

The department offers 220 million in loans for timber expansion on National Forest lands.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently launched a new program to support wood and timber processing in the National Forest System.

Managing the 20 million acres of forest within the United States involves thinning out trees that pose risks to forest health and preventing the spread of insects, disease, and wildfires within ecosystems. The USDA’s loan program for timber production processing offers a total of $220 million in loans to expand wood processing facilities that use trees harvested from federal and Tribal lands.

“Rural America is the backbone of our country, providing the everyday essentials we all depend on,” Secretary Tom Vilsack said. “Under the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA Rural Development is partnering with the Forest Service to support timber industry innovations that improve forest health and reduce wildfire threats while creating good-paying jobs for people in rural, forest-dependent communities.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Vilsack as he oversees loan programs for timber processing.
  • For Chief Randy Moore of the U.S. Forest Service as he heads the stewardship of the national forests.
