In the News…
Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky has joined Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia in calling on Congress to reveal the current and former legislators on a secret list who have settled sexual harassment claims with taxpayer dollars. The Office of Congressional Workplace Rights has paid over $17 million in public money to settle hundreds of cases that include sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and pay disputes.
Representative Massie said, “Congress has secretly paid out more than $17 million of your money to quietly settle charges of harassment (sexual and other forms) in Congressional offices.”
He added, “Don’t you think we should release the names of the Representatives? I do.“
Representatives Massie and Taylor Greene called for the list to be released after the House Ethics Committee published the report against former Representative Matt Gaetz.
A resolution was proposed last month by some House majority members to publish “each settlement of a complaint filed against the office of a Member of the House under the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 that provides for the payment of funds which was approved by the chair and ranking minority member of the Committee during any Congress.”
