Issue 680 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Federal Reserve Board made its third consecutive rate reduction at its final meeting of the year. The central bank made a quarter of a point rate cut in December, predicting that the pace of rate reductions will slow down in 2025.

Pray for members of the Federal Reserve as they assess the state of the nation’s economy and employment.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York stated that the federal judiciary “will be one of our strongest  — if not our strongest — barrier against what [President Trump] does.” Senator Schumer recently oversaw the confirmation of the 235th judge of President Biden’s administration, surpassing the previous record number of judicial confirmations during President Trump’s first administration.

Pray for members of both chambers as they are sworn in to the 119th Congress and for the representatives of the House as they prepare to vote on a speaker and certify the results of the 2024 presidential election.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, released a report that was critical of the Central Intelligence Agency’s handling of “Havana Syndrome“ cases. The committee found that the agency’s failures included delays in care, murky policies, and a lack of planning to address future incidents. The committee offered 11 recommendations to correct the issues surrounding care for CIA employees who experience “Anomalous Health Incidents,” which were first reported in 2016.

Pray for the chairs and members of House and Senate committees as they issue reports and recommendations to federal agencies.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

President-elect Donald Trump has requested that the Supreme Court delay the January 19 deadline for the sale of TikTok until he has been inaugurated and can make a deal that would avoid the social media platform being banned. President Trump would like “to pursue a negotiated resolution that could prevent a nationwide shutdown of TikTok, thus preserving the First Amendment rights of tens of millions of Americans, while also addressing the government’s national security concerns.”

Pray for the justices of the Supreme Court as they consider the president-elect’s request to delay the deadline.
