Makes $80 million available for industry partners to increase supply.
The Department of Energy (DOE) opened applications for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) production facilities, making $80 million available through a competitive grant. HALEU is essential for smaller-scale nuclear energy plants, but there is no domestic source of the element large enough to sustain commercial operations. The department is seeking pilot projects that can demonstrate increased HALEU production with lower risks and costs.
“We need a productive and secure HALEU supply chain to support the advanced reactors that will play a key role for energy security and in our clean energy future,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Michael Goff. “Through this funding opportunity, DOE will encourage technological advancements to provide industry additional options in the buildout of that supply chain.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Granholm and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Goff to be led by the Lord as they seek to support uranium production.
- For U.S. energy officials to be prudent as they pursue the current administration’s goals.
