The U.S. State Department released a joint statement from the U.S. and Japanese governments on guidelines for extended deterrence.

Spokesman Matthew Miller stated, “The Alliance faces an increasingly severe strategic and nuclear threat environment. The Government of Japan and the Government of the United States of America are committed to reinforcing extended deterrence in order to promote regional stability and deter the outbreak of conflict.“

He added that the guidelines reinforce “the Alliance’s existing consultation and communication procedures related to extended deterrence. The Guidelines also address strategic messaging to maximize deterrence and enhance measures for U.S. extended deterrence, bolstered by Japan’s defense capabilities.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary of State Blinken and U.S. diplomats as they engage allies in the Indo-Pacific.
  • For wisdom for U.S. officials as they seek to strengthen partnerships to counter China’s claims in the region.
  • For the president and his advisors to be discerning in their responses to domestic and international events.
