DHS secretary says they have deployed resources to NJ to address the sightings.
Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas claimed that, though people have been seeing drones for weeks, starting in New Jersey, the thousands of sightings are “not unusual.“ He recently stated that his department is providing resources to New Jersey to address the sightings.
Secretary Mayorkas said, “I want to assure the American public that we are on it.”
Members of Congress have begun expressing concern over the executive branch’s inaction.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said, “If the technology exists for a drone to make it up into the sky, there certainly is the technology that can track the craft with precision and determine what the heck is going on.”
The Pentagon denied the drones are Iranian after Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey claimed that nation as the source.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said, “We’re obviously most concerned about sensitive targets and sensitive, critical infrastructure. We’ve got military assets, we’ve got utility assets, we’ve got the president-elect’s, one of his homes, here. This is something we’re taking deadly seriously.”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said, “This has gone too far,“ after drone activity shut down an airport runway near Newburgh, New York, on Sunday. She stated the federal government should send officials to “ensure the safety of our critical infrastructure and our people.”
Drones also caused Wright Patterson Air Force Base to close its air space on Sunday.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Mayorkas and other federal agency leaders as they address the unidentified drone activity.
- For members of Congress and state officials to be discerning as they seek answers to the thousands of drone sightings and the shutdown of runways and military air space.
