Common ingredient causes liver, kidney, blood cancer, and nerve damage.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule banning the use of cancer-causing chemicals in consumer and industrial cleaning products. The final rule solidifies a 1-year ban and 10-year phase out of the chemicals, making a 20-year exception for battery manufacturing and a 50-year exception for “essential laboratory activities.”
These chemicals, called TCA and PCE, have been found to greatly increase the risk of cancers in the liver, kidneys, blood, brain, and testicles. They have also been found to cause heart defects and damage to the central nervous system. These chemicals are widespread in a variety of degreasing cleaning products, including furniture cleaners, brake cleaners, and dry cleaning chemicals.
“It’s simply unacceptable to continue to allow cancer-causing chemicals to be used for things like glue, dry cleaning or stain removers when safer alternatives exist,” said Assistant Administrator Michal Freedhoff, for the EPA Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Administrator Regan and EPA officials as they seek to prevent the use of cancer-causing chemicals.
- For Assistant Administrator Freehoff to seek God’s direction as he oversees his office.
