USDA Expands Tribal Education Programs and Investments

$5 million in grants, Tribal fellowships, and scholarship programs are intended to increase the next generation of agricultural leaders.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack announced new opportunities and investments to support Tribal students and educators during the 2024 White House Tribal Youth Forum last month. Initiatives included a $5 million grant through the New Beginning for Tribal Students (NBTS) Program to improve educational paths at land-grant colleges, intending to encourage workforce development within Tribal Nations.

Secretary Vilsack also highlighted the USDA 1994 Tribal Scholars Program, offering full tuition, fees, and career-track employment opportunities within USDA for eligible students.

“These USDA investments reinforce our commitment to empowering Tribal Nations by cultivating tomorrow’s agriculture sector professionals and building a USDA workforce more representative of America,” said Secretary Vilsack. “It is important that USDA continues to uplift Tribal communities and provides pathways of representation by working with universities and colleges to improve the lives of Native American students and communities through higher education.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack to be led by the Lord as he oversees the tribal student program.
  • For USDA officials as they seek to support the agricultural development of tribal nations.
