U.S. Official Concerned Russia May Use Experimental Missile Against Ukraine

Says an intermediate-range missile would cause more fear than damage.

A U.S. official said that Russia may utilize its new intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) against Ukraine soon. Russia has conducted final experiments on the Oreshnik IRBM, and it fired its first Oreshnik last month.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that the missiles can reach speeds of Mach 10, around 7,000 mph, and reach targets up to 3,500 miles away. Though these capabilities are standard for IRBMs, the official did not think that the Oreshnik, if used against Ukraine, would cause substantial damage within the country.

On Friday, Russia attacked Western Ukraine’s power grid with roughly 90 missiles and 200 drones.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for U.S. officials as they respond and anticipate actions in the Russia-Ukraine war.
  • For the president and his advisors as they continue to support Ukraine.
  • For the president-elect and foreign allies as they propose peace plans to end the war.
