Interior Announces $20 Million for Local Wildfire Response

The new pilot program funds slip-on tanker units for pick-up trucks.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) made an additional $20 million available through its Slip-on Tanker Pilot Program this week, offering local governments funding to convert pick-up trucks into wildland fire engines.

“Our nation experienced unprecedented wildfire activity this year, further demonstrating the need to expand our firefighting capacity and better equip local governments,” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “Through this pilot program, President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is providing resources to help more local governments rapidly respond when a wildfire threatens their communities and landscapes.”

Local governments serving populations less than 50,000 are eligible to apply for the program. Grant applications are open until February 2025, with individual awards ranging from $10,000 to $500,000

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland to be discerning as she allocates funding to address wildfires.
  • For Interior Department officials as they steward the nation’s lands and resources.
