FDA Considers Ban of Food Coloring

The move could be made ahead of the incoming administration.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods Jim Jones announced during a Senate meeting that some food dyes may be banned soon. He stated, “With Red 3, we have a petition in front of us to revoke the authorization board, and we’re hopeful that in the next few weeks we’ll be acting on that petition.”

The review was motivated in part by Representative Frank Pallone, Jr. of New Jersey, ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He recently wrote to the FDA about food coloring, stating, “With the holiday season in full swing where sweet treats are abundant, it is frightening that this chemical remains hidden in these foods that we and our children are eating.“

President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has called for changes in the nation’s food industry for a long time.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Commissioner Jones and FDA officials as they consider rescinding the approval of certain food dyes.
  • For Congressman Pallone as he advocates for the ban of food coloring chemicals.
  • For wisdom for the president-elect and his nominees as they prepare to take office.
