CMS seeks to enhance Medicare Advantage and Part D programs, including coverage for anti-obesity medications.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently proposed updates to Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D prescription drug programs to improve care access and protect beneficiaries. The rule intends to hold plans accountable for delivering high-quality care and addressing barriers such as excessive prior authorization requirements. A key proposal includes Medicare Part D coverage for anti-obesity medications. Other changes include requiring MA plans to share provider directories on Medicare Plan Finder to help beneficiaries compare options easily.
The rule also targets misleading advertisements and strengthens oversight to protect consumers. Additionally, CMS proposes updates to Medical Loss Ratio regulations to improve plan transparency and address concerns over vertical integration.
“We continue to hear from people enrolled in Medicare Advantage who are having difficulty accessing the care they need and are entitled to, and CMS remains focused on removing these barriers,” said Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Medicare Meena Seshamani. “Whether it’s difficulty navigating options, being able to afford the lifesaving medications you are prescribed by your doctor, or receiving the inpatient or rehabilitation care you need to get well, no senior or person with disabilities on Medicare should be having these challenges.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Seshamani as she fulfills her role in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
- For HHS officials as they seek to ensure consumer protections and access to medical care.
