House Committee Chair Proposes Veteran Healthcare Access Bill

The legislation would require coverage of alternative healthcare if the VA does not schedule appointments within 20 days.

House Veterans Affairs Committee chair Representative Mike Bost proposed a bill to increase healthcare access for veterans. He said the Mission Act of 2018 should ensure healthcare for all veterans, but claimed the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is attempting to keep veterans away from private care and in VA hospitals and clinics.

Congressman Bost’s “Complete the Mission Act” would implement a new standard allowing veterans to access private healthcare if the VA takes longer than 20 days to process any requested healthcare appointment.

“The Mission Act transformed the delivery of health care to veterans across the nation, especially in rural and remote areas of the country. … Following the Mission Act standards is not optional — it is the law,” Representative Bost said this week.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chairman Bost and members of the House VA Committee as they seek to provide veterans with alternatives to VA Department care.
  • For VA Secretary McDonough and department officials as they seek to care for the health of the nation’s veterans.
