National Tsunami Warning Center cancels tsunami warning.
On Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported a 7.0 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Northern California. The epicenter was near Petrolia, in Humboldt County. A tsunami warning that was issued for parts of coastal California and Oregon was later canceled by the National Tsunami Warning Center.
While the National Weather Service tsunami warning was in effect for 500 miles along the West Coast, evacuations were ordered for certain areas.
USGS Earthquake Science Center geologist Stephen DeLong said there was a “robust” aftershock sequence during a briefing. Over 30 aftershocks were reported with a 4.3 earthquake occurring near Petrolia.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed a state of emergency declaration so resources were readily available. While minor structural and infrastructure damage resulted, no injuries were reported.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- With gratitude to God for the tsunami not materializing and for little damage and no injuries.
- For federal, state, and local officials as they monitor severe weather and natural disaster occurrences.
