U.S. Defense Official Visits West Africa to Strengthen Security Partnerships

Acting under secretary discusses regional stability and countering extremism with leaders in Benin and Côte d’Ivoire.

Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Amanda Dory is visiting Benin and Côte d’Ivoire from December 1 through 4 to strengthen defense partnerships and address shared security concerns. In Cotonou, Benin, she will meet with key officials, including Minister of Defense Fortunet Nouatin and Chief of Defense Staff Major General Fructueux Gbaguidi, to discuss bilateral collaboration on defense and maritime security. The acting under secretary’s visit underscores the ties between the U.S. Department of Defense and Benin’s Ministry of Defense.

In Côte d’Ivoire, Acting Under Secretary Dory will meet with President Alassane Ouattara, Defense Minister Téné Ouattara, and other senior officials in Abidjan. They will discuss countering violent extremism, strengthening bilateral defense relationships, and improving regional security. The acting under secretary’s trip highlights the Department of Defense’s commitment to West African partners in addressing shared challenges and promoting stability in Coastal West Africa.
