Blue Cross Blue Shield denied her religious exemption claim.
A federal jury awarded a Catholic woman $12 million this week who was fired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in 2022 after refusing to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.
Jurors found the company discriminated against the former employee and illegally terminated her employment. The woman had worked from home and had requested an accommodation based on her religious beliefs.
Blue Cross Blue Shield was also accused of having denied requests for religious accommodation from hundreds of others, and firing many of those who were denied an exemption. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had issued guidance to employers to assume requests for religious exemption from the COVID vaccine were based on sincerely held beliefs.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For judges and juries to be discerning in their decisions regarding religious freedoms.
- For Chair Charlotte Burrows and members of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
